Free Resource: Tips for New Release Distribution
As an entrepreneur, I’m all about sharing resources and information for those who are just starting out or are looking to level-up their public relations game. Media relations can be a hard subject to tackle on your own, so here I’ve outlined a few tips to help get you started.
When sending out a news release, pitch, or press packet, there are three distribution routes you can take:
1:1 Email Distribution. The simplest and most straightforward way to send a news release for coverage. If you don’t have access to an email list database, you can normally find email addresses for journalists on your target publication’s website under the “Contact” page.
Web-based news distribution. Web-based distribution sites such as PRWeb.com and EIN Presswire are great options If you’re looking to make an online and SEO splash and you have lots of art, video, and accompanying media (e.g. PDF downloads, etc.) to go along with your news release.
Traditional newswires. Newswires such as Business Wire and PR Newswire are ideal if you are making “big news” announcements about a new product line, mergers, major awards, and so forth. If your goal is media coverage, as well as the cachet of having your news cross a reputable newswire, these services are the way to go.
However, as with anything, truly researching each distribution pathway will help you discover which one is right for you, your budget, and your specific PR needs. To learn more tips and tricks about media distribution and pros and cons of each path, download our free PDF guidebook “Your Intro Guide to Media Distribution” here.
