Book Recommendation: “The Five Dysfunctions of a Team”

Is there such a thing as a “business book beach read”? We’d argue that The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable fits that bill!

This was recommended reading as a part of the EO Accelerator program, and we loved it. It's not often that one gets to call a management theory book a "beach read," but The Five Dysfunctions delivers its wallop of knowledge in the form of a narrative: the gripping story of a tech CEO as she handles a team of fractious (and at times uncomfortably recognizable) middle managers. There are no dry lectures or pages of overloaded jargon in this book! It’s a unique learning experience - and one that will stick with you.

As writers and brand message strategists, we understand the power of narrative to lead people into a first-person understanding of problems, choices and solutions — and we applaud Patrick Lencioni's use of a compelling story to deliver his thought-provoking management lessons.

What are those lessons?

We could tell you now, but without the story where's the fun in that? What we can say is that once you've read this book, you'll start seeing the problems Lencioni highlights all over the business press and quite possibly in your own working life as well. But here’s the good part: you’ll spot the solutions, too.
